OneWhy this exists
Consumer credit is one of the few areas of ordinary life where the documents are legally required to be clear and are still, in practice, unreadable. The disclosures are standardised; the vocabulary around them is not. Somebody signing a first car loan meets amortisation, acceleration, perfection and precomputed interest in the same afternoon, usually with a salesperson waiting.
The gap is not intelligence. It is vocabulary and sequence. Given the words and the right order to read them in, most people work out a credit agreement perfectly well on their own. That is the entire premise of this site.
TwoHow the entries are written
Each entry starts from a real document — an agreement, a statement, a disclosure box — and works outward. If a term appears, it is defined the first time it is used and again in the glossary. If a mechanism is arithmetical, the arithmetic is shown rather than asserted, which is why the interest entry ships with a calculator you can pull apart.
We hold ourselves to three rules that are easy to state and occasionally annoying to follow:
- No invented statistics. If we cannot point to where a figure comes from, it does not go in. You will not find a claim on this site that a certain percentage of borrowers save a certain amount, because we have not measured that.
- No fabricated testimonials. There are no customer quotes, no photographs of people described as readers, and no invented case studies presented as real. Worked examples are labelled as worked examples.
- Numbers are illustrations. Every figure is a teaching device explaining a mechanism. None of them is a quote, an offer, or a prediction about what you will be charged.
ThreeHow the site is funded
Publishing costs money and honesty about where it comes from is part of the job. This site is funded by its publisher and may in future carry advertising or paid placement. Where any content is sponsored or where a link earns a commission, it will be labelled as such at the point where you meet it, not in a footnote nobody reads. Editorial content is not written to favour a commercial arrangement, and we do not sell reader data.
FourWhat we deliberately do not do
We do not lend
We are not a lender, broker, correspondent, servicer, debt settlement company or credit repair organisation. We take no applications, pull no credit reports, and hold no money. There is no “apply” button anywhere on the site because there is nothing to apply for.
We do not advise
General education is not personalised advice. Whether a specific loan suits you turns on facts about your income, obligations and plans that we do not have and do not want. For that, use a licensed professional or a non-profit credit counselling agency.
FiveThe publisher
Loan Information Center is published by Sentinel Holdings I LLC, 1613 Evans Ave #530, Cheyenne, WY 82001. Correspondence, including corrections and licensing enquiries, goes to [email protected] or through the contact page.
SixCorrections
Lending practice varies by state and changes over time, and reference material goes stale quietly. If you find something on this site that is wrong, out of date, or merely unclear, tell us and point at the sentence. Substantive corrections are made to the page itself. We would rather be corrected than be consistent.
Standing disclosure
Nothing published here is an offer of credit, a commitment to lend, or financial, legal or tax advice. Read your own agreement and take advice from someone licensed to give it.
